Mary Ann Mobley was Miss America in 1959; the first Mississippian to win this honor. She is one of the few Miss America winners to have true success as an actress or TV personality (the others are "Barnaby Jones" (1973) beauty Lee Meriwether, TV hostess Phyllis George and Eraser (1996) heroine Vanessa Williams). She married actor Gary Collins in 1967.
