| The 1973 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant was held at the 2,000-year-old amphitheatre of Odeon of Herodes Atticus, at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece on July 21, 1973. This is the first Miss Universe Pageant held across the Atlantic and was, up until Cyprus in 2000, the only pageant held in the continent of Europe. This is also the only Miss Universe Pageant that was held outdoors.
Margarita Moran from the Philippines was crowned the most beautiful girl in the universe beating out 60 other beautiful delegates from all over the world. Margarita Moran was also chosen the most photogenic contestant by the press photographers that covered the pageant.
