Joe McElderry is the winner of the sixth series of the ITV talent show X Factor held on December 13, 2009.
Joseph McElderry is an 18-year-old student from Westoe, South Shields in Northeast England. He impressed the judges and the audience with his rendition of the Luther Vandross' classic 'Dance With My Father' on the Great Britain's Singing Show X Factor 2009.
Joe lives with his family in South Shields and only started singing four years ago after playing around on a karaoke machine. He entered a local music competition in 2008 and came in 3rd. He received the 'Young performer of the year' award at the Pride of South Tyneside Awards in 2008. He entered The X Factor in 2007 and reached Bootcamp but decided to leave the competition as he felt he was too young and wanted more experience.
