| 19 year old Nancy Streets, a South Bend resident and a senior at a school in Bloomington surprised everyone in the former Ku Klux Klan territory of Indiana by winning Miss Indiana University that entitled her to compete but lost in the state Miss America contest, one step from the national pageant. |
